Essex based Hollywood star Clive Owen is supporting his local cinema by attending a special screening of his new film, The International, there.
Owen, who has a home in Wrabness, has arranged for the exclusive screening followed by a question and answer session with him at the Electric Palace cinema in Harwich on Saturday, March 1.
The acclaimed actor, best known for his roles in The Bourne Identity, Sin City and Children of Men, became a patron of the cinema in 2006 and supported the volunteers who run it by raising funds for structural repairs which have now been carried out.Mr Owen and his wife used to watch films at the cinema in the early days of their relationship and the actor offered to help when he learnt the cinema urgently needed money to keep going.
The star has helped organise screenings and Q&A sessions before and Peter Hadley, a member of the Electric Palace Trust, says he’s always very “hands-on” with his support.
“He’s always keen to know what’s going on here. Every time he’s back he meets up with one of us.
“This screening and question and answer session was entirely his idea - it’s his baby.
“People love he format… They love to see a movie and ask a question about it to the people involved.
“With the banking theme, The International couldn’t be more topical right now,” added Mr Hadley.
The Electric Palace first opened in 1911 but closed in 1956. After extensive restoration work, it was reopened in 1981.
